What is "Coldlink"?

When your website tends to contain a lot of videos, it is hard to ensure that your visitors need to come back to your site to see them. What if someone has taken your video and has placed it on their site, completely removing the need for visitors to come back to your site? You start losing visitors to your site and if you host the video, the hot linking creates unneeded bandwidth and load on your website when people aren't even using your site to see it.

"Coldlink" has been designed to remove the stress of people stealing or hot linking your videos. With our advanced video protection and encrypting methods, we can ensure that your video link can only be viewed by your website's visitors.

Using "Coldlink" to protect your video links has never been easier. Simply fill out the Add Video form and copy the code that best suits your needs.

Where did "Coldlink" go?

Wednesday, Nov 05, 2008 - 9:10 pm

Well, I will tell you - it went offline.

The server that "Coldlink" is currently running on had some trouble - only getting online several minutes ago.

Why did the server die? Well, "Coldlink" was getting attacked by a DoS attack which caused the site to either load very very slowly or not at all. As the host of the server said: "After blocking 14,289 IPs, the server had had enough." - At least it got that many.

"Coldlink" is currently in a changing state so be aware of downtime in the following days - hopefully it will be my control this time.

Unexplained Downtime

Sunday, Oct 19, 2008 - 7:15 pm

Yet again the "Coldlink" server went down unexplained and unexpected today. I am still investigating as to why this happened - especially on the day a new episode for The Simpsons and Family Guy air.

Regardless of the reason, I will be moving not only to a better server but switching hosts. Yes yes, I know, not again but it should be done quickly and smoothly.

I will keep you all posted with further news and updates.

Player errors #2032 and #2048

Tuesday, Sep 09, 2008 - 4:54 pm

Due to my recent changes on "Coldlink" many of you have been complaining about errors appearing in the player. This was unexpected and I am afraid it went a day or two without being noticed - I have more the likely fixed the problem now.

I will be monitoring the videos to ensure that this error doesn't appear anymore but remember, I cannot replicate every situation so bare with me if you still see it.

Note: Yes, the player skin has been removed and is now replaced with the default player skin but I am still debating which skin to use...

Server Trouble

Monday, Sep 08, 2008 - 8:18 am

Update: As the name servers switch back to the correct server, my host discovered "they" simply ran a formatting command to take the server offline. The server is back online and "Coldlink" should soon be running normally again.

Testing... 1... 2... 3... Can you see this? Good good.

Today we had an interesting turn of events - the server "Coldlink" was running on, got hacked.

If (a) hacker(s) were the true cause of the server's downtime, I am not sure since I am not the host of the server but I just hope I can return to the actual "Coldlink" server shortly.

"Coldlink" is currently on a backup server and the host is investigating the problem.

Sorry for any inconveniences. Thank goodness the database is safe. ^_^

Switched to a Dedicated Server

Monday, Aug 25, 2008 - 5:22 pm

Update: We had a short downtime today due to a RAM upgrade on the DS. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Within the past few days, "Coldlink" has been moved over to a new, Dedicated Server.

The move, although went fairly smooth, has turned up a few problems. I am currently working it out and everything should be back to normal soon enough.

Several problems/minor issues have already been fixed but one of the noticeable ones is the Image Verification Image not showing up on the contact form.
